Male night sweat is a topic that is slowly but surely being discussed more and more among the medical fraternity. The issue is that many men suffer from night sweats and they wonder whether it is something they should be worried about, whether is a sign of a serious underlying health problem.

Under normal circumstances, a man should not be worried about night sweats. Doctors are finally acknowledging that men go through a state that is quite similar to menopause. This is known as andropause, and just like women, who experience night sweats and hot flushes, even men experience night sweats. This is primarily due to the changes in the hormones going on in the body. In men, testosterone and other male hormones fluctuate causing night sweats and after a certain period of time, these sweats will disappear on their own accord.

As a man approaches late forties, he will start sweating more during nights. Instead of getting worried and stressing yourself out, you should take steps to make yourself comfortable at nights. Wear light pajamas and use cotton bed linen to reduce the amount of sweating. Also, keep the room cool by using an air-conditioner or keeping the window open. Besides this, reduce your intake of coffee and alcohol. These two beverages can increase sweating, especially at nights. Before retiring to bed, take a nice cool shower and drink some water. Make sure you do not drink too much water as you will have to get up in the middle part of the night to relieve yourself.

Sometimes, night sweats in men can be sign of a serious medical problem. You should start worrying if you have to get up in the night and change your clothes or bed linen because of the sweat. If this is the case, you should immediately consult your doctor and have tests done to diagnose the medical problem. The medical conditions that cause excessive night sweats in men include tuberculosis, diabetes, HIV and cancer. Also, in some men, night sweating occurs due to sleep apnea. This is the body’s defense mechanism acting as the condition causes temporary cessation of breathing. Night sweating can also be caused due to change in medication or stress.

Invariably, male night sweats is caused due to the aging process and is normal phenomenon which resolves itself in due course; but if you are particular worried about this, make sure you consult your doctor without fail.
